If betting has stopped being a bit of fun

There is not a single commercial link on this page and there never will be. What follows is what actually exists in Ghana, including the part where something does not.

There is no national helpline, and this page will not invent one

No dedicated national problem-gambling helpline is published in Ghana. The regulator's own work on gambling and mental health records that most people are unaware of any support service, and commits to publicising helplines and referral pathways as future work. A regulator undertaking to publicise helplines is the clearest evidence available that there are none published yet.

Two numbers circulate on betting pages as Ghanaian gambling helplines. Both are the Gaming Commission of Ghana's general enquiry and complaints lines, published as such on its own contact page. Somebody in a bad hour who dials a number labelled as counselling and reaches a complaints desk has been let down by whoever printed the label. So this site prints no number rather than a wrong one, and will print one the day a real service exists.

What does exist

  1. A deposit limit at the operator. Most licensed books let you cap what can go in. Set it when you open the account, not when you need it.
  2. Self-exclusion. Ask support to close or exclude the account. Do it in writing and keep the confirmation, because an exclusion you cannot evidence is one you may have to argue about.
  3. A complaints route at the regulator. The Gaming Commission of Ghana licenses these operators and can be contacted about one. It is a regulator rather than a support service, and this page is careful about the difference.
  4. Blocking software on the handset. Not specific to Ghana, and the one measure that does not require the operator to cooperate.

Books that publish a phone line

When you want an account closed, a chat window is the wrong channel and a phone line is the right one. eleven of the thirteen bookmakers we researched publish a number on their own surfaces. These are listed as contact details, not as recommendations, and none of them is linked.

The rest of this site is about what a bet costs. That framing is deliberate and it has a limit: arithmetic is useful to somebody choosing between two books and useless to somebody who cannot stop. If the second describes you, nothing on the other pages is going to help, and the account you should be looking at is the one you already have open.

Asked here

Is there a gambling helpline in Ghana?
No national one, and this page will not print a number that is not one. Two numbers circulate on betting pages as Ghanaian gambling helplines and both are the regulator's general enquiry and complaints lines. Reaching a complaints desk when you needed counselling is worse than knowing in advance that there is nothing to call.
How do I stop myself betting?
Self-exclusion at the operator is the tool that exists and it is the strongest one available here, because it is enforced by the account rather than by willpower. Ask support to close or exclude the account, in writing, and ask for confirmation in writing.
Can I set a deposit limit?
At most licensed operators, yes, and it is worth setting one on the day you open an account rather than on the day you need it. A limit set while calm is the only kind that helps.
What is the legal age?
18+ throughout Ghana. No operator on this site may open an account for anyone younger, and no page here is written for one.
